ROLES

Interviewer, Designer, Editor, Art Director

TASK

Observe & interview a professor within the S.I. Newhouse School. Create a custom typeface based on their personality, profession, and style.

PROGRAMS USED

Glyphs Mini, InDesign

TIMELINE

3 months

FINAL PANELS

After finalizing each letter into an entire system, I downloaded it to my computer and made it available so that I could design these two panels highlighting its nuances.

WHY

As I began observing the professor, she mentioned horses often. This part of her identity was important to her so it was important that this typeface reflected that. After looking at the recognizable body-parts of horses like hooves, neck, legs, tail, and ears, I knew I wanted to explore how I could incorporate it into the letterforms.

BRAINSTORMING

Taking my thoughts to my sketchbook first.

THE FUN PART

Each letter was designed using a software called Glyphs mini.

I designed most of the letter’s DNA based on horse hooves & horseshoes.

3D PRINTING

I brought my favorite letter to life by taking my file to the lab.

This letter was given to the person who I based the typeface on.

EXHIBIT

I printed and hung these panels (18”x24”) inside the S.I. Newhouse School.
